The Bhukunda Bhairav Ji Temple is located in Kedarnath about 800 mts. from Kedarnath temple with a small trek. It is one of the attractions of Kedarnath Dham.
Bhukunda Bhairav Ji is known as Kshetrapal or guardian deity of Kedarnath Dham. Every year, before the opening of the doors of Kedarnath, worship is done at the Bhairav temple. Bhukund Baba is considered to be the first Rawal of Kedarnath. He is considered to be the protector of this place. Before worshipping Baba Kedar, there is a ritual of worshipping Kedarnath Bhukund Baba and after that, the doors of the Kedarnath temple are opened as per the rituals.
This temple of Bhukund Bhairav is located half a kilometer south of the Kedarnath temple. The idols here are of Baba Bhairav which have been installed without a roof. Bhairav is considered to be a form of Lord Shiva.
